As our kids grew up, my husband and I constantly searched for books we could read together as a family at night before sending the kids to bed. Some of the books we read were so excellent that we, the parents, looked forward to evening reading time as much as the children did. We selected books like Tales of the Kingdom, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Magic Bicycle Series because we wanted to instill Chritian values in our children, but we were blown away by the literary value of these books as well.
In my recent search for books of similar quality, I have often been disappointed in that the ones with true Christian values tend to be preachy and not particularly well-written from a literary perspective, and other books that claim to be Christian are often stories that fall far short of being truly Christian in their message. I was beginning to wonder if well-written literature with a Christian message had become a thing of the past.
I’m happy to announce this genre has not disappeared. Curtis Walker’s Book and Key Series, Volume I, entitled The King’s Verses, meets these rigid criteria. This book is magical, suspenseful, and challenging. It paints a picture of the spiritual warfare that takes place every day as powers beyond our understanding battle over our souls. The forces for good must prevail, and the destructive powers of the evil world must be overcome. Yet sometimes it is hard to tell which are which! Your children will be sitting on the edge of their seats, anxious to see what happens next.
